The National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation Inc. is pleased to announce the hiring of Carol Hopkins as our new Executive Director. Hopkins, for the past 13 years has been the Executive Director of Nimkee NupiGawagan Healing Centre Inc., a youth solvent abuse treatment centre located in Southern Ontario.
Nozhem ("MotherWolf"), of the Wolf Clan, is from the Delaware First Nation of Moraviantown, Ontario. Carol has also served as the Chairperson for the National Youth Solvent Addiction Committee (YSAC), and has represented YSAC on the Board of Directors for the National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation Inc. She has served as a board member for the Canadian Council for Health Services Accreditation; and along with YSAC has continued to be involved in the development of the First Nations and Inuit Substance Abuse Services Standards of the Canadian Council for Health Services Accreditation, and the ongoing growth and maintenance of this
program.
Carol is currently the co-chair for the First Nations Addictions Advisory Panel which has been developed to guide the Addictions Evidence base process from the national level, and will be tasked with developing a national program framework to guide NNADAP's overall renewal activities in the coming years.
Her strength in the health profession is the ability to blend western and First Nation traditional health and healing practices in a competent and responsive manner. She holds a Masters of Social Work Degree from the University of Toronto. In this regard, Carol has taught for Anishinabek Education Institute, in the Traditional Aboriginal Healing Methods Program and offers cultural training seminars.
She has also taught courses in the Native Social Work program at Laurentian University, and is a board member for the Native Social Work Journal of Laurentian University. Carol is also a part time professor in the Social Work Program at Kings College of the University of Western Ontario.
As a recipient of the Walter Dieter Award from the Assembly of First Nation in recognition of academic achievements made in the field of Social Work with First Nations; Carol brings a wealth of knowledge, and experience to the Partnership Foundation which will serve as a great asset to the organization.
